What does walking well mean to you?
Strong purposeful strides, arms relaxed and swinging by your sides, a relaxed gait that involves your whole body, clearing your mind to be observant to your surroundings with the rhythm of motion inspiring new ideas….
Maybe it represents independence and mobility. Walking certainly gets you places!

Walking is the foundation for most of our daily movements and movement is nutrition for all of your body’s internal processes and functions – improving circulation, strengthening your heart; lowering your risk of type 2 diabetes, osteoporosis and arthritis. Walking helps prevent dementia and it lifts your mood, shifting stress.
There are many fundamental movement connections that a baby learns on the ground before getting upright and walking. We explore these motor patterns in a playful manner during Awareness Through Movement classes to influence our ease and fluidity of moving when upright. If walking currently highlights particular aches and pains that prevent you from going too far, these classes are about finding ways to involve your whole body in moving to take strain off individual joints; improving your balance and co-ordination.
The difference between tiring or revitalising is the way you go about it. As it’s something we do on a daily basis, walking is an opportunity to check in with how your body is feeling overall. Let's transform walking from the mundane to the marvellous through mindful movement explorations!

...surprised and impressed at how a single workshop has given me an increased sense of freedom around my pelvis and hips. Eternally grateful - it's been a long time coming!
