massage therapy – how it works

Your brain sends signals to your muscles telling them when to engage and disengage. When they’re frequently being used to do the same action repetitively, muscles can sometimes get stuck in a contracted state of activation, ‘forgetting’ to disengage when no longer required.
If your muscles are engaged and chronically 'on' when they don't need to be, that’s a waste of cellular energy that is even occupying an unnecessary portion of processing capacity within your brain! Areas that are tight pull on surrounding structures that pull back, altering muscular recruitment patterns.
Massage releases these contracted areas to rest in a more neutral position; so that all muscle fibres will be available to be recruited for action when required (rather than already engaged with no potential for generating more force / movement) .

Choosing Remedial Massage or Feldenkrais? I liken massage to good vacuum / cleanse and Feldenkrais to rearranging your organisational layout, setting up effective systems long term.
